The word “rat” for most people immediately connote the stereotypical vision of a beady-eyed, pointy-nosed rodent that you see rooting around at night near the trash. What most people don't know is that domesticated rats are intelligent and social animals that can make wonderful pets. They can be taught to perform tricks, run through mazes, and even solve simple problems. Sadly, the average lifespan of a rat is only two to three years. I suggest not to get too attached!
